Behind The Music - Big Time.

I began doing these Behind The Music posts in 2009 when I released a few online tracks. So I thought why not do it again for the "EP" that was released last month. To be honest I didn't wanna label the project a "Mixtape" or "EP" So I kept it simple and just called it "A folder full of songs" A lot of thought went into the naming as you can tell. Creative thinking on a another level.

Sweet. I came across the Big Time track on YouTube via ABC, a skateboarding crew based here in New Zealand. Since the Frontline days when What You Expect was released and I heard a track called Settle The Score, I was like "Damn" that beats tight. I listened to their music and ended up buying the album.

Fast foward: After finally hearing the full song of Big Time written by David Dallas on Amplifier, the album/ radio/ instrumental versions were available for download on the site. I downloaded it and played the instrumental for about a week or so. By this time I had already set up shop at my home in Melbourne Australia. The song was recorded with Adobe Audition 1.5 accompanied with a condenser mic I purchased from Sydney. I used the original version as a reference to my situation growing up, moving to Australia, and basically day dreaming my days away about crackn The Big Time.

Wrote down a few bars to mess around with than formed it all together like a puzzle. The only part I had trouble with was the scratched vocals that were already mixed in with the instrumental. I wasn't sure how I was gonna by-pass this minor section in the song. I spat a few words while the beat was playing, chopped a few words out like I was Gordon Ramsay on crack holding a mic and VOILA.

That song went on its way to win itself in a competition on NZ's own hip hop website AyeBro As far as I know everybody lived happily ever after.

The good folks over at www.musichype.com wrote something on my "EP" or compilation or what ever the term is that you might wanna call it. Pretty cool. Massive thanks to everyone that help repost the link for download and help get it out there. Good cunts.

Tomorrow night at Fuel Bar here in C-city Smashproof will be here to do some tracks along with the crew Blacked Out. Theres gonna be some giveaways, models, dancers and local artist doing some raps up on stage. Tickets are $15.00 and $20.00 at the door. Rock on down. Its gonna be a dope night.

New song and some other stuff

Chur bo.

At the end of January I had a car crash which left my right arm skinned and torn from my wrist down to my elbow. Two operations later and nearly two weeks in hospital and 4 months off work Ive been on the go. After the earthquake I shot up north to get looked at by the plastics team up those ways due to the hospital here in Christchurch being packed out. *Strong Hand*

Along my journey I stumbled across the bros Casey Rarere, Ben Aitogi, Tyna Keelan and Joseph Maharaj. Had some laughs, beers, and kicked some music knowledge with these dudes. Had a mean time up there. My 1tb external fried itself on 1 mission back to Quake city. And all my new music/old songs are stuck on there. For the time being till I get that fixed I hunted through some emails and found a couple I sent off for feedback. Here's one I recorded up in Welington.

C City "The Place Of My Birth"

Whats up team.

I gather most of you all know that our city got dealt a heavy blow from the earthquake on Tuesday. The difference from this one compared the one we had on the 4th of September is that there were no lives taken. Unfortunately our recent one took a more damaging hit to our home. I was at home when Tuesday's one hit. I thought it was another little aftershock. With all the ones we've had you get use to them and just wait it out. But this one went longer and had a more violent shake to it.

So I flick to the television and saw the actual impact it had on the CBD and out east of where I stay. My instant reaction was to call my kids at school and txt my family and friends to make sure they were all okay. As time went by and the media had more coverage of how bad it was, my heart just sank as I watched the T.V and seen all the people hurt and our city was falling apart.

This is the type of stuff you see and hear about in other countries but for it to happen in your own is on a whole other level and to be so close to it aswell is something words cant explain. If you are wanting to help there are donations being taken from the New Zealand Red Cross and banks also. I wanna thank all the brave people that have come to our city to help us in these times. And everyone that's donated/helped in any kind of way. Thanks heaps.

Rest in peace to all those that have passed away in this tragedy. Condolences to your family and loved one.

In other news.....

I haven't written a post in awhile since the Rihanna comp some time ago. Big mass huge shout outs to EVERYBODY THAT VOTED FOR YA BOY. It was unreal. But I never made the cut. Was fun tho. So I could write for ever about how there's been no new music, but Im a keep it short and simple and tell you that it involved my laptop frying it's ass on me after buying new software on the same night. Fail. Then me thinking fuck it Im just gonna buy a whole bunch of brand new recording equipment.

After doing my research on the gear I wanted to invest my money in to for a few months, I went out and brought it and got my studies on and learnt a whole lot of new shit. "Pro tools for dummies even" 700+ pages long even... Longest book I've ever read in my life. True story.

If you follow me on twitter you would have read that I moved back to NZ. Spending another long stint away it makes you appreciate home and the people you have in your life. I had a lot of time to write some new songs and reflect on some stuff. Also a big Thanks to Talia Brown for the new look on the page. Still got some adjustments to make here and there but I'm feeln the vibe on the page. Here's a track I did while over in Australia. I just put this track together, not in a rush or anything. Just recorded my verses. Its not edited up to sound flash. Just some a raw flows put on a beat I was feeling. So yeah. Mind the quality of this piece and have a listen.

I was hungover as hell yesterday and just happen to check my facebook while on the floor after watching "My sisters Keeper" (No Homo) good movie tho. And then I get this message saying "Congrats brother you won" and I click on the link and there some whole video post and words from David Dallas. Sweet deal. Hey bro..
Farrkk what a weekend son. On Friday night I performed for the first time in awhile in front of a mean crowd with my bro DJ MYKZZ. It was the first time me and him have done a set together. It was all jacked up on a short notice thing, but we pulled it off like we knew what was going on but really... Hahaha.
After a needle breaking on the decks and some mic cables not fitting in their sockets, and mic volumes fucking up it went smooth from what I can remember. The whole night was a blast really bro. True story.
A big thanks to everybody that came down to support us and watch us do our thang. And to the girls that took the footage from the night. Awesome work ladies. So here’s some of the footage taken of the gig. We didn’t get much photo’s but moving images are way cooler bro.

This track was one of my many half ass songs that I started then it sort of just get's placed in its folder and stay's there for some time. Until this song magically appeared on one of my mates ipod??? half finished of course then to my surprise I get a text from one of his bro's from BNZ asking if it was ok if they drop some rhymes on it. As for this track it took me like an hour to write. It was one of them beats where you can relate to and just pour your heart out over. After recording it it took awhile to mixdown and pick out all the crappy bits, and get all the volumes right and getting it sounding pretty mint. I played it over and over afterwards while I had my kids sleeping in the studio on the couch. I wrote the song in the sense I was taliking about somebody else but truth be told it was about ME and shit that I was going thru at the time. Hope you like it. This beat here was givn to me by a dude who went by the name of ''Boy wonder'' who ran some type of beat management company called ''Beat lounge management'' So i wrote this straight after work on a Friday. I had the beat with me all day at work on my ipod and was trying to figure out a topic to acompany the beat. Sometimes I over cloud my brain with topics to write too and it never works out that way. When I got home I played it on my PC and sat for a moment and then my pen just started going to town working in sync with my brain and this flow just started so I hit the mic and smashed it out just like that.
